ALA 2012 Annual Conference CALL FOR BRASS FORUM SPEAKERS on Social Media
ALA 2012 Annual Conference CALL FOR BRASS FORUM SPEAKERS on Social Media
The Business Reference in Academic Libraries Committee of RUSA (a division of ALA) needs your help. We are seeking panelists for our forum during the 2012 annual ALA conference. The topic of our forum is "Using Social Media to Promote Business Librarians and Resources." We are specifically looking for four librarians who have used social media to answer detailed or niche questions and not the basic business questions generally covered by library instruction sessions. Each panelist will speak for approximately 15 minutes. We are looking for librarians from any type of library setting, including academic, public, or special (see the abstract below for more details on the forum topic). Unfortunately we are not able to offer any type of financial compensation. The forum will be held on Saturday, June 23 from 1:30-2:30. Thank you for your consideration.
If you (or anyone you know) would be interested in serving as a panelist for our forum, please let us know by December 1.
Thank you,
Brass Forum Planning Subcommittee

Increase your contact with patrons by using social media to harvest the ?Long Tail? of questions ? those detailed or niche questions that together total more than general instruction. Businesses have used the theory of the long tail to increase sales and improve customer satisfaction by catering to specific preferences. Social media allows you to address these needs through its flexibility and accessibility. Make sure you are using social media with the long tail in mind.
