Subject Matter
In order to prepare future leaders and fill staffing gaps in libraries, we must recruit, develop, and advance current library workers. We are looking for case studies from a variety of library types that have succession or mentoring plans in place. Case studies should include details about formation and implementation of these plans, discussion of successes and failures, and recommendations for best practices and changes. The main authors will analyze the contributed case studies, provide recommendations, best practices, and suggestions for implementing a succession planning program in any library through the use of mentoring.
Other topics in the book (written by the co-editors) will include:
· Succession planning and mentoring introduced and defined
· The private sector model
· The public sector model
· Literature review
· Application of succession planning and mentoring models in business and higher education
Target Audience
Library Administrators and Managers
Case Studies Solicited
Case Studies from Academic, Public, School, & Special Libraries solicited regarding formal or informal succession planning models, especially those with an emphasis on mentoring. Case studies should include a description of the plan and successes and challenges of the plan.
Proposal Submission Procedure
Practitioners are invited to submit on or before December 15, 2014, a chapter proposal of 1,000 to 2,000 words providing a clear overview of the library?s plan and the mission and concerns of his or her proposed chapter. Authors will be notified by January 15, 2015 about the status of their proposals and sent chapter guidelines. Full chapters are expected by April 15, 2015. All submitted chapters will be reviewed through a double-blind peer review editorial process.
