The Arlington Public Library has over 400 volumes of the Contemporary Authors series to recycle, and we're looking for your help. Send us proposals for projects that YOU would like to create, using some or all of the books --
Guidelines:- Submit a proposal by COB August 13, 2010
- We will accept proposals for traditional and non-traditional use of the books
- No more than 3 proposals per person
Terms and Conditions:- You must be able to pick-up and remove the books from the Library yourself
- Projects must be based in the Metro DC or Virginia area
- The Library reserves the right to select a winning proposal/proposals, or to not select any proposals
- Based on the proposals we receive, we may share them for community feedback
- If your proposal is selected, we may publicize it here on the Library's news blog
Why are we looking for creative ways to recycle these volumes?Although Contemporary Authors - a compilation of biographical and bibliographical data on more than 120,000 modern authors - remains a standard reference series for public libraries, the full content is now available online in our Literature Resource Center database, where it's fully searchable at any Arlington Library, or remotely 24/7 from your computer. In addition, we have purchased the full back file of Contemporary Authors content, guaranteeing permanent future access.
And while we would love to take the more traditional approach and donate this series to another library or institution, we have been trying to do so, and are unable to find anyone interested in the books. If you know anyone interested in owning these volumes - and willing to come to us, box them up and pay for the shipping - please encourage them to submit a proposal.
