DRIFT at the Courthouse Farmers Market This Saturday

Visitors to the Court House Farmers Market - outside the Plaza Branch Library - will find themselves in the midst of an outdoor dance ?happening? this Saturday when one of the region?s most innovative contemporary dance ensembles, Liz Lerman Dance Exchange performs DRIFT, a dance by choreographer Cassie Meador, at 9, 10 and 11 a.m.

DRIFT peers at all kinds of change ? change in time, change in place, and change in tradition. Influenced by her deep Georgia roots, Cassie Meador was inspired to create a new dance when she saw how a plot of land in her Augusta hometown changed from farm to strip mall, strip mall to a Piggly Wiggly super market, Piggly Wiggly to a place of worship. Meador now brings the work to Arlington, sensing the County?s rapid and ongoing transformation from suburb to exurb to urban mini-metropolis. The dancers? blend of fluid movements and tectonic shifts mark the choreographer?s musings about what gets left behind in the face of whirlwind change.

DRIFT is part of Dance Metro DC?s month-long ?Dance Is the Answer? series of Flash Mobs ? dance happenings in public places throughout the DC metro area, April 15 ? May 2, 2010, and is co-sponsored by Arlington Cultural Affairs. For a list of all events and more information about Dance Is The Answer 2010, please visit www.danceistheanswer.org
