Improvements Set for Columbia Pike Branch Building

Arlington Public Schools, owner of the Career Center, which is home to the Columbia Pike Branch Library, will be working on a number of improvements to the facility over the coming months.

These will include:

Replacement of all Library and Career Center windows and front doors - Starting soon and going through the end of October.
This includes all external library windows and window frames on both floors including the staircase, children's picture book area, the Young Adult section, the large Study Room and tutor areas, and the CyberCenter server and office space. All these areas will be affected at some point and made unavailable at times.

Replacement of Library and Career Center roof and drainage system - Starting now, with completion expected by the end of September.
This project involves removing existing asphalt roof, carefully monitored manual removal of asbestos-laden flashing (there is no risk to the public), drilling through concrete to install new drainage pipes, tearing open the ceiling inside the second floor of the library to install piping and placing new asphalt on the roof.

Replacement of entire HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning)system in Library and Career Center - Set to start in September, and be completed next April.
This project will move from room to room through the entire building, shutting down each room temporarily as it progresses.

Library staff will make every effort to keep temporary inconveniences to a minimum, and Columbia Pike branch users will be kept fully informed as the work progresses. But as with all building projects, this schedule is subject to change. So please check the comments below for our latest news.
