New in Plaza Reference: "Design Like You Give a Damn"

The Plaza Branch Library has just received the reference book Design Like You Give A Damn: Architectural response to humanitarian crisis, edited by Architecture for Humanity.

The book covers both existing projects and proposals from around the world; one really interesting example is the Huts and Low-Riders, built by the Mad Housers group in Atlanta GA. The book also features object-design solutions such as the Hippo Water Roller (used in parts of Southern Africa where piped water is not available) and Ceramic Water Filters (pictured at left), which were used to produce clean drinking water throughout Central America after Hurricane Mitch.
