November Films at Shirlington

The Shirlington Branch Library presents an eclectic mix of holiday, classic and documentary films for November:

Mondays in the Sun / Los Lunes al Sol - Tuesday, Nov. 1, 6:30 p.m.
The Shirlington Screens series presents a look at the issue of globalized labor by focusing on one small group of workers forced out of their jobs in a shipyard. The director has a somewhat whimsical take on the issue but makes the point of showing how potentially productive men have been cut off from their previously active lives. [2002] Rated R, 113 minutes. Spanish with English subtitles.

The Thin Man - Sunday, Nov. 13, 4:30 p.m.
A Sunday Classics presentation of film that gave America the dapper sleuth and his loving wife, Nick and Nora Charles. The chemistry between William Powell and Myrna Loy was so right that five sequels followed. A great combination of murder, mystery and screwball comedy. [1934] Not rated, 91 minutes.

Planes, Trains and Automobiles - Tuesday, Nov. 15, 6:30 p.m.
A modern holiday classic from director John Hughes. Neal Page (Steve Martin) just wants to get home for Thanksgiving but his travels are filled with u-turns and pitfalls. Meeting Del Griffith (John Candy) along the way only makes matters worse. [1987] Rated R, 93 minutes.

After the Thin Man - Sunday, Nov. 27, 4:30 p.m.
William Powell and Myrna Loy are back as the intrepid husband-and-wife sleuth team, Nick and Nora Charles. And don't forget their very intelligent dog Asta. [1936] Not rated, 112 minutes.
