Snow Moon, by Frank McCarthy |
Frank McCarthy (1924-2002) was a commercial artist in the early years of his more than 50-year career, producing posters, advertisements and illustrations for various book and magazine publishers. In 1968, he left commercial art and began a career in fine art after moving to Sedona, Arizona. His paintings featured people of the Old West, particularly the Plains Indians, mountain men and cavalry who symbolized the Old West. His works are well regarded for their motion, drama and attention to accuracy and detail.
James Bama (1926- ). After a career working as a commercial illustrator for a number of sports organizations and becoming known for his portrayal of Doc Savage on 62 book covers, Bama moved west to Wyoming. There he began creating portraits of the Native American people who inhabited the plains and mountains of the West, combining traditional culture with a contemporary vision.
