Madison Public Library Author Sirje Kiin is an Estonia writer living in the United States. Through her literature she introduces you to the Estonia world and history. During the program, Sirje will discuss her scholarship work, "Marie Under" and answer these questions:
- How did she become the most influential poet of 20th century Estonia?
- Why did the Soviet Union forbid Marie Under?s poetry?
- Why were people sent to Siberian labour camps for reading and copying her poetry?
- Why was Marie Under never awarded the Nobel Prize in literature, despite being nominated over 30 times?
