Talking-Books User Honored with Ten-Squared Club Award

On Friday, Sept. 23 at 2:30 p.m., Arlington centenarian and Talking Books user Mrs. Martha Miller will be inducted into the Ten Squared Talking-Book Club.

As a member of the Library's Talking Book program, Mrs. Miller will be awarded a special pin and certificate for turning 100 this year. Mrs. Miller has been using the Library's Talking Books program for over 7 years.

Talking Books is a national service offered at the Arlington Public Library through the National Library Service for the Blind and Physically Handicapped (NLS) and the Library of Congress. Any individual unable to read print or hold a book may apply for mail access to thousands of unabridged recorded books, which are supplied to Arlington Public Library by NLS. Books and the equipment for listening are then sent to qualified users by US mail. The service also includes Web-Braille, which provides many braille books and all braille magazines produced by the NLS in an electronic format.

A brief ceremony will take place on the first floor of Central Library, next to the Audio Visual department.
