"Get Caught Reading" Events This Week
Kids entering kindergarten through 5th grade are invited to join us for special Get Caught Reading events this summer, including performances, science demonstrations, art activities and more. Events start on July 8, but "Get Caught Reading" is already underway - if you haven't signed up to read yet, it's easy!
How to get event tickets:- Tickets are required for all participants and will be distributed only to age appropriate children and one accompanying adult per child.
- Tickets will be available at each location on the day before the performance on a first-come, first-serve basis until seating capacity is reached.
- Some branches have very limited seating, so please plan ahead.
- Reservations will not be accepted in any form.
- Direct questions about specific programs to the location at which they will be held.

Performances and Events: - Canceled - Ocean in Motion - The Virginia Aquarium and Marine Science Center's traveling tank and hands-on experience features LIVE animals from the bay and ocean.
Central Library: July 8, 2:00 - 7:00 p.m. - Alonso Abugattas - Hop on over and join Alonso Abugattas from Long Branch Nature Center and learn all about frogs and toads. There will be stories, experiments, games and much more, and you'll get to meet many of our amphibian friends up close and personal!
Columbia Pike: July 9, 1:00 p.m. * Aurora Hills: July 15, 1:30 p.m. - Magic of the Sea - Through music, story and acrobatics, storyteller Arianna Ross enchants audiences with tales of life above and under the sea.
Glencarlyn: July 12, 1:30 p.m. * Cherrydale: July 12, 4:30 p.m. * Westover: August 11, 4:00 p.m. * Columbia Pike: August 11, 7:00 p.m. - Sea Turtles and our Watersheds - This program from the Smithsonian National Zoo connects kids with their local and global watersheds through an engaging activity and awareness of the sea turtle's habitat.
Shirlington: July 13, 1:30 p.m. * Central: July 13, 3:30 p.m. - Make a Splash! - Who says magic and water don't mix? Not magician Brad Matchett, who inspires reading through magic and stories.
Westover: July 14, 4:00 p.m. * Columbia Pike: July 14, 7:00 p.m. - Clowning Around - Did you miss the circus? No problem! Bob Brown Puppets & Merry Marionettes perform feats of skill and daring usually found only "under the big top!"
Glencarlyn: July 26, 1:30 p.m. * Cherrydale: July 26, 4:30 p.m. - Chemistry with Fizz, Foam & Flash! - The Maryland Science Center explores cool chemistry through loud, bright, visually thrilling experiments.
