Call for Papers: IFLA Classification & Indexing Section Program
World Library and Information Congress: 78th IFLA General Conference and Assembly Helsinki, Finland 13-17 August 2012 Classification & Indexing Section Open Session - Call for Papers "Subject Access now: Inspiring, surprising, empowering"
We invite presentations showing new and innovative ways of providing subject access to users from all types of libraries ? approaches or applications that are inspiring, surprising, empowering.
For example:
* Do you provide subject access to resources through innovative library architecture and shelving design?
* Is your library environment and equipment closely connected to user needs in finding, selecting and exploring topics?
* Have you designed new or particularly creative tools for navigating subject repositories?
* Do you use subject metadata in unexpected ways in recommendation services?
* Is there a connection between your subject access policies and inspiring learning environments?
* Do you offer innovative genre access for fiction, children?s literature, or audiovisual media?
* Do you feel you work in a user-driven institution with a social tagging success story?
* Are you focusing on user needs applying subject access tools that empower or surprise your users?
If so, then please consider submitting a short paper to present at our Open Session in Helsinki.
We are particularly interested in presentations from Finnish libraries or libraries of the Baltic/Scandinavian area.
Submissions
The deadline for submitting short papers is 15 February, 2012
Papers should be in English and no more than 2000 words in length. The submission should also include:
* Abstract of approximately 150 words, summarizing the paper
* Author?s name, professional affiliation, postal address, and email address.
Short papers and presentations should represent unpublished, original work. Submissions will be reviewed by a selection committee of members of the Standing Committee of the Classification and Indexing Section. Successful short papers will be identified by March 31, 2012, and authors notified shortly thereafter.
Authors should be prepared to give presentations at the Classification and Indexing Section Open Session at the IFLA Conference, held between August 12-16, 2012. The length of the presentations should be approximately 15 minutes with 5 minutes for questions/discussion. The conference will be conducted in English and all presentations will be required to be in English.
Successful short papers will be translated into the official languages of IFLA. IFLA has first publication rights to papers selected.

Please note that all expenses, including registration for the conference, travel, accommodation etc., are the responsibility of the authors/presenters. No financial support can be provided by IFLA, but a special invitation can be issued to authors.
