Our fall and winter book titles will be:
Nov. 8: The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. The bestseller, by Swedish author, Stieg Larsson was originally published in 2005 in Stockholm, and then translated into English in 2008 (copies will be given out at the September book discussion).- Dec. 13: The Woman Behind the New Deal: The Life and Legacy of Frances Perkins, Social Security, Unemployment Insurance, and the Minimum Wage by award winning local author author Kirstin Downey. Downey is former staff writer for the Washington Post, and was part of the reporting team that won a Pulitzer Prize in 2008 for their coverage of the Virginia Tech slaying.
- January 10: Unaccustomed Earth: Stories by Jhumpa Lahiri, winner of the Pulitzer prize.
- February 7 (we will meet on the first Monday, due to Valentine's Day): The State of Jones: The Small Southern County that Seceded from the Confederacy by Sally Jenkins and John Stauffer.
