Tuesday, November 8, is the birthday of the master of gothic drama, Bram Stoker.
Stoker is best known today for his writings, but during his life he was better known for his work in theater. He was one of the managers at the Lyceum Theater in London where he assisted actor Henry Irving, administered theater finances, and also for a time served as director and secretary. It was at this time that he began writing. Dracula was published in 1897. The character of Dracula has become an iconic figure in literary and pop culture from Bela Lugosi's famous interpretation in the movie Dracula to Sesame Street's more benign character "The Count."
This Tuesday, celebrate with us by reading (or rereading!) the chilling tale of Count Dracula or one of his other spine-tingling stories.
