Lecture: "Issues in Contemporary Islam" Nov. 29



Join us in the Central Library Auditorium for a presentation by former foreign service staffer Andrea Farsakh on ?Issues in Contemporary Islam,? Monday, Nov. 29 at 5:00 p.m.

Mrs. Farsakh worked with various Middle East countries during her 25-year foreign service career. She served in Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, and Tunisia, where she was a Political Officer charged with leading the reporting and negotiating efforts of the Embassy with the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), and directed the Embassy team that organized logistics for the first ever meeting between a U.S. Secretary of State and Yasser Arafat in Tunis.

Since her retirement, Mrs. Farsakh lectures on Islamic subjects and the Israel-Palestinian conflict. She has an undergraduate degree in Political Science from Mount Holyoke College and an M.A. degree in Arab Studies from the American University in Beirut. Her essay A Comparison of the Sunni Caliphate and the Shi'i Imamate was published in the journal The Muslim World, in 1969.
