Local History Author Talk: "Columbia Pike: The History of an Early Turnpike"

Join us on Thursday, September 9, to learn more about Columbia Pike: The history of an early turnpike (pdf) with author John Paul Liebertz, at 7 p.m. in the Central Library Auditorium. This event is co-sponsored by Arlington Historical Society and the Columbia Pike Revitalization Organization.

We first wrote about "Columbia Pike: The history of an early turnpike" in May, shortly after Liebertz's monograph was published in pdf form.

Liebertz, who has a Masters in Historic Preservation from the University of Kentucky, was working as a volunteer for the Arlington County Historic Preservation Office when he was asked to research and write a monograph describing the early years of Columbia Pike, in time for the Pike's 200th birthday. He used original source materials from the Library of Congress, the National Archive and the Virginia Room in his research.

Now employed as a contractor in the Arlington County Historic Preservation Office, Liebertz is researching for historic markers/interpretive signs that will be placed in East Falls Church and Pimmit Run, and plans to submit the Columbia Pike monograph for publication to the National Park Service's CRM: The Journal of Heritage Stewardship. We first wrote about "Columbia Pike: The history of an early turnpike" in May, shortly after Liebertz's monograph was published in pdf form.
