"Lift Every Voice and Sing!":The Evolution of Spirituals

This program thoroughly researched by scholars Jefferson and Wilske presents a look into African American religious music particularly focused on the song, ?Lift Every Voice and Sing!? which is still sung today with the same hope and fervor as it was four years after the 1896 Plessy vs. Ferguson Decision that ushered in ?separate-but-equal? Jim Crowism.  These scholars will share the evolution of music, race relations, and the hope for today.
