Please join us for a reception on Wednesday, Sept. 1, from 7:00 - 8:30 p.m., and meet the artist himself - refreshments will be served.

Will HaubertAn Arlingtonian for the past 30 years, Will Haubert is a retired government worker with a passion for photography. Literally. On the day he retired, Will left his government office at 4 pm, Metroed home, and 3 hours later attended his first photo club meeting. And hasn?t looked back. Last year, he was the Northern Virginia Photographic Society?s Photographer of the Year in three categories: Novice Color Prints, Novice Monochrome Prints, and overall Versatile Photographer. Along the way, he won Novice Print of the Year in both Color and Monochrome.

In high school, Will was considered to have no artistic talent ? he couldn?t even draw stick figures. So he went to law school. Years later, Will began taking pictures to document his vacations and family moments. One day, as he stepped onto the Nydeck Bridge over the River Aare in Switzerland, he noticed the lines, shapes, textures, and colors of the red-tiled rooflines spreading into a residential sector of Bern. It was a crystalline moment ? a realization that photography could be art. His heart leaped ? the teachers were wrong! He had just been using the wrong medium!

Will began hanging photos in his office. Colleagues stopped by just to look at his ?gallery? and in 2008, he was picked as an ?Artist in Residence.? Soon, Will began to resent the amount of time his job took from his photography ? which is why he retired.

Over the past two years, Will has had images juried into the Wilmington International Exhibition of Photography, the Maryland Federation of Art 9th American Landscape Exhibition (image selected for Cover of Brochure), the Meadowlark Nature Photo Expo, Workhouse Arts Center's Inaugural Expo, the Upstream People Gallery?s 12th Annual Landscape Juried Online International Art Exhibition, and was exhibited in ?The Power of Yellow? in the Art & Soul Space of Scituate, Massachusetts (2009).

Last year, Will was the 2009 Arlington County Fair Overall Reserve Grand Champion for Photography and, in addition, was the Monochrome Champion. He has won numerous monthly competition awards and is currently Vice President of the McLean Photography Club.
