Update on Tax forms at the Public Library
The Ottumwa Public Library has been notified by the IRS that they will no longer be supplying tax forms and instruction booklets as has been the practice for many years.  Traditionally, the library ordered the forms and booklets in October and would receive them to hand out to the public for free in January.

According to the email sent to library staff, this will no longer be the practice due to budget cuts to the IRS through the omnibus appropriations legislation passed by Congress in December.
Tax payers can still obtain free forms and booklets by requesting them one of three ways:  IRS.gov/Forms (to view and download), IRS.gov/orderforms  (to order tax products to be delivered by mail), or 1-800-829-3676 (to order tax products to be delivered by mail).

Patrons can still download forms at the library and pay $.15 per page to have them printed.  This is the same cost and process as the library has done for Iowa Department of Revenue tax forms since 2011when they made a similar decision to stop providing libraries with tax forms.

The IRS will provide the library with a limited number of Forms 1040, 1040A, and 1040EZ, but their instruction booklets will not be provided.
