Library Honors Arlington Icon Martha Miller at 100
She met President Coolidge as a 4-H teen. She was captain of the Purdue field hockey squad. Demonstrated new ranges for Washington Gas. Raised a family on Quintana and then Huntington streets. Helped overhaul the County School Board and went on to teach math for decades at Stratford Junior High. Won a Person of Vision award from the Arlington Commission on the Status of Women. And that was just in her first 100 years.
Meet Martha Miller, now a member of the "Ten-Squared Club," a group of centenarian users of the Library's Talking Books service, which is run in conjunction with the National Library Service for the Blind and Physically Handicapped (NLS), Library of Congress. She received her special pin and certificate from Arlington Public Library Director Diane Kresh at Central Library on Sept. 23.
Mrs. Miller, who turned 100 last month, has been working on her autobiography and we can't wait to have her back as an author as well as a very special Library user.
