The Mississippi River in Song: A Musical History Tour

For our October program the OPL?s Reminisce Society is pleased to have performer Dean Klinkenberg present at the upcoming Reminisce program, Tuesday, October 28, at 10:00 a.m. in the library?s meeting room.

There are hundreds of songs about the Mississippi River. What on earth are all those people writing about? And what do those songs tell us about what we think of the river? Join Dean Klinkenberg for a musical float trip through the history of the Mississippi River as he talks about river towns, river rats, monsters, and flooding, mixing clips from songs about the river with stories of the people and places of the Mississippi Valley.

Plan to join us on Tuesday, October 28, for a fascinating glimpse into Iowa?s culture. Reminisce Society programs are free and open to everyone. For further information, please call the library?s director, Sonja Ferrell at 641-682-7563, extension 202.
