Agriculture in Arlington County: Our Recent Past, and a Vision for a Sustainable Future
Join us Wednesday, Sept. 28 for a presentation on ?Agriculture in Arlington County: Our Recent Past, and a Vision for a Sustainable Future,? from 7:00 - 8:30 p.m.Dan Redmond, whose graduate research is on sustainability and environmental systems, will explore the recent history of agriculture in Arlington, and how that mirrors the changes in many cities of our country. He will examine the challenges we face in today's industrial food system, including peak oil and climate change, and explore nearby cities that are proactively addressing the challenges of a secure food system for their residents for the future.
Redmond will also outline his plan for an organic urban vegetable farm that he suggests should be incorporated into Arlington County's broader definition of sustainability. Arlington County government and businesses have made great strides toward building a sustainable economy, and Redmond believes that a centralized urban farm in Arlington would be a valuable step in our commitment to create a healthy, sustainable community for future generations.
This event will take place in the Central Library Auditorium, and is sponsored by Arlington Food Assistance Center.
