Explore a Green Economy with ?Steady as She Goes: Three Explorations of Sustainability?

Over the next 3 months, Arlingtonians for a Clean Environment and Potomac Overlook will continue their exploration of sustainability with programs about our planet, how people fit in, and the challenge of creating a green economy.

These 3 programs will take place at various locations across the County:

"A Dream of Gaia; Earth Through Science and Myth" - ARTISPHERE Dome Theatre - Tuesday, July 12, 7:00 p.m.
Multimedia presentation with Martin Ogle, Chief Naturalist of the Northern Virginia Regional Park Authority.
Experience Earth through the eyes of our ancestors and the most recent, scientific understandings. Ogle blends cultural symbols, the scientific story of life, music and images of our planet to create an artistic and holistic view of Earth. Admission: Pay-What-You-Can; Parking: Free for this event in the N. Kent Street garage.
This program compliments the Artisphere exhibition, "Contain, Maintain Sustain." A paid reception for the art exhibit will be held in the Artisphere's Here Cafe following the program - admission is $10, and all are welcome.

?Steady as She Goes; Exploring the Steady State Economy? - Central Library Auditorium - Thursday, Sept. 29, 7:00 p.m.
A presentation and panel discussion with Brian Czech, President of Arlington-based Center for the Advancement of the Steady State Economy.
The concept of steady state economy, forwarded by economist Herman Daly and others, addresses the establishment of an economy that does not exceed ecological limits. Mr. Czech is also a Visiting Professor at Virginia Tech, where he teaches ecological economics in the National Capitol Region. A prolific author in a variety of venues, his scientific articles have appeared in dozens of peer-reviewed journals, dealing primarily with ecological and economic sustainability issues.

?The Journey of the Universe? - Film Screening at George Mason University Arlington Campus Auditorium - Monday, Oct. 24, 7:00 p.m.
Acclaimed author and evolutionary philosopher Brian Swimme narrates this grand film about our role as humans in this awe-inspiring universe. His insights light up the night skies and bring new wonder to the mundane. Big science, big history, big story - this film was created by a team of internationally-recognized scientists, scholars, and award-winning filmmakers.
The film will be introduced by Dr. Thomas Lovejoy, chief biodiversity adviser to the president of the World Bank, senior adviser to the president of the United Nations Foundation, and president of the Heinz Center for Science, Economics, and the Environment. Dr. Lovejoy also introduced the term biological diversity to the scientific community in 1980.

This series is co-sponsored by the Arlington Public Library, Artisphere (Arlington County?s urban art center), George Mason University, Arlingtonians for a Clean Environment, and the Northern Virginia Regional Park Authority.
