Exploring the "Steady State Economy" on Sept. 29

How can we establish a healthy economy that does not exceed its ecological limits?

Join us Thursday, September 29, 7:00 p.m at the Central Library for a program that will seek to answer that question, when author Brian Czech discusses Exploring the Steady State Economy; Implications for Environmental Protection, Economic Sustainability and National Security.

This program will include an overview of what a steady state economy is (and is not) and how it affects and speaks to environmental protection, economic sustainability and national security. Audience members will be invited to engage in Q&A / discussion, moderated by Martin Ogle, Chief Naturalist for the Northern Virginia Regional Park Authority.

Brian Czech is president of the Arlington-based Center for the Advancement of the Steady State Economy, and a Visiting Professor at Virginia Tech, where he teaches ecological economics in the National Capitol Region. A prolific author in a variety of venues, his scientific articles have appeared in dozens of peer-reviewed journals, dealing primarily with ecological and economic sustainability issues. Czech is also the author of Shoveling Fuel for a Runaway Train and The Endangered Species Act: History, Conservation Biology, and Public Policy.

This program is co-sponsored by Arlingtonians for a Clean Environment, the Office of Sustainability at George Mason University and Potomac Overlook Regional Park.
